Verne Afton Ingram, age 79, passed away on June 10, 2022 in Lakewood, Colorado. Verne was born October 4, 1942 in Denver, Colorado, graduated from high school in Boise, Idaho and then went to University of Idaho where she received her bachelor’s in Elementary Education.
Verne returned to Colorado in 1966 and raised her three children (Brett, Amy, and Kent) in Lakewood where she chose to live the rest of her life. Verne got her CPA and then followed her passion and taught from 1982 to 2012 at Red Rocks Community College, becoming Business Chair as well as Faculty of the Year.
Verne was very active in the Colorado Community College system, serving in various capacities in addition to her teaching at RRCC. She also took great interest in Native American cultures, visiting many historical locations.
Verne is preceded in death by her parents, William Afton and Jean Cooper Afton; and three grandchildren. She is survived by her three children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Verne is also survived by her six siblings.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 29, 2022 at 3:00pm in the Community Room at Red Rocks Community College, 13300 W. 6th Ave Frontage Rd, Lakewood, CO 80228. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Red Rocks Community College Foundation, Box #1, Lakewood, CO 80228 or through ColoradoGives.org.
