Virgil Drohman

May 25, 1933 — January 15, 2020

Virgil Elvin Drohman of Parker, Colorado passed away January 15, 2020 while peacefully sleeping in his home.

Virgil was in born in Edgar, Nebraska on May 25, 1933 in the home his parents were farming at the time. He was the second of 4 children born to Elvin and Erna Drohman. Virgil graduated from Davenport High School in 1950.

On January 16, 1955 Virgil and Dorothy (Miller) were united in marriage at the Brethren church in Carleton, Nebraska. They welcomed into their home 4 children in 5 years. Virgil worked as a farmer’s hand for 7 years.

After visiting Colorado, Virgil was determined to make this his home. In 1962, he said goodbye to farm work and moved his family to Boulder, Colorado. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family; his primary occupation was as a mechanic, which he did at car dealerships, gas stations, Rocky Flats Plant, and Mountain Bell. Virgil could fix anything. In the late 1980s, Virgil's health prohibited him from continuing on as a mechanic. Mountain Bell thought so much of his personality and work ethic that they re-trained him to be a phone man servicing the IBM plant in Boulder.

Virgil loved everything outdoors and working with his hands,–some of his favorite activities were camping, fishing, coaching baseball, jeeping, restoring anything, and woodworking.

Once Virgil and Dorothy retired in the early 1990s, they spent many months traveling the United States in their truck and 5th wheel camper. They visited 47 of the 48 contiguous states. Their dog Beau was always by their side.

In 2001, Virgil and Dorothy moved to Berthoud, Colorado where Virgil had a very nice workshop. He made many beautiful pieces but he felt his biggest accomplishments were the 250+ wooden cars he made (wheels and axels too) and donated to the church for distribution to those without. Even when he couldn't remember much, he did remember these cars.

2015 Virgil and Dorothy moved to Lincoln Meadows Retirement community in Parker, Colorado. Virgil was active in the community and always there with a smart-alecky comment for everyone.

Interment of Virgil's remains will be at the Davenport Nebraska cemetery in May 2020.
