Virgil was born on April 21, 1936 in Denver, Colorado to parents Virgil, Sr. and Tomasita Del Toro. The Del Toro family grew up in central Denver living most of their lives at 765 Lipan Street. Virgil lived with his parents, favorite sister Polly and his beloved brothers Arthur and Orlie. He attended Denver West High School. In 1953, at age 17, Virgil met a very attractive young lady from New York City by the name of Jennifer Frances Borrero. Jennie was traveling from New York to California and made a stop in Colorado. They met through mutual friends. About one year later, Virgil and Jennie were married on July 11, 1954 in Denver. They had two children, Cynthia and Michael. Virgil and Jennie raised their family in West Denver living for over 24 years at 410 Stuart Street. Virgil started working in the construction field at age 10. He remained in construction primarily operating heavy equipment for over 30 years. He was a proud member of Operating Engineers, Local Union #9 for over 53 years. In 1976, Virgil took a big risk and headed to Alaska to seek employment. He wanted to work on the Alaska Pipeline. In May 1976, he was hired as a Facilities Mechanic with Alascom. For over 24 years, Virgil was primarily stationed at Pump Station #4, which is 150 miles south of Prudhoe Bay. He retired on September 12, 2000 returning to his home and family in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. While in Alaska, Virgil became a Shriner with the Ancient Order of Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge #3. Virgil was an amazing self-taught musician. He played guitar, bass guitar, piano and was lead singer for several rock and roll bands throughout the 1950's and 1960's. His first band was called ""Del Toro & The Rockers"". He also taught his brother Orlie and his grandson Justin to play the guitar. Virgil lived for his five grandchildren: Justin, Marisa, Renee, Rachel, and Anthony. He enjoyed attending all their sporting events, band concerts, choir concerts, school events and anything that they were involved in. His eyes lit up when he saw his grandchildren. During his wonderful life, Virgil enjoyed traveling to Mexico and Las Vegas with his family. He also enjoyed woodworking and fixing anything that was broken. He had almost every tool that was manufactured. He also loved to go to sporting events, especially the Denver Nuggets, and attend music concerts. Virgil was the glue that helped keep this great family together. Because of him, our family learned to love, and the importance of family is something that he instilled into each of us. He will be deeply missed but will live on forever in all our hearts.
