Virginia J. Erickson

September 7, 1945 — June 4, 2012

Virginia Jean Erickson, 66, of Silverthorne, CO joined her mother and father in heaven on June 4, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 7, 1945 in Torrington, WY to Thomas and Edith Spoonemore. Virginia graduated from Torrington High School where she was crowned Homecoming Queen. Her people skills began during her high school years serving others at the Torrington bowling alley. It was here that she met her first husband Vic Hanson in July of 1963. In their first few years of marriage they relocated to several locations because of employment, at which time their three children were born. They eventually settled in Greeley, CO where they raised their children. While living in Greeley, Virginia served as a travel agent, office manager, and retail sales associate, typically working more than one job at a time. She was also actively involved with her children's school and extracurricular activities. Virginia was dedicated to ensuring that her children had everything they needed. After 22 years of marriage, she and Vic divorced. In 1987, Virginia married James Erickson in Brookings, Oregon. They made their home in Oregon, Colorado, and Arizona. She and Jim traveled throughout Alaska, Canada, and California. During the winter months, they lived in Black Meadow Landing in Lake Havasu, CA. Virginia's hobbies included garage saleing, line dancing, going to lunch and to movies with her good friend Barb and her ""girlfriends"". One of Virginia's greatest passions was crocheting a blanket for anyone that was celebrating a life event such as a wedding or the birth of their baby. Virginia will always be remembered for her infectious smile, her positive attitude, her memory of others and their interests, and above all her people skills and hospitality. She loved and cared for everyone and always put others' needs above her own; whether she had just met them or had known them forever. She will sadly be missed by all lives she had touched. Virginia is survived by her husband, Jim; her brother, Ken (Rosalie) Daniels; sister, Terri Sims; daughter, Lori (John) Strasser; son, Tory (Terri) Hanson; and daughter, Tammi Fisher; grandsons, Ryan Hanson, and Tyler and Jeff Fisher; step-daughters, Debbie Erickson and Kristy Jackson; step grand-children, Brandon, Bryan and Jamie; two great-grandchildren, in addition to her ""guardian angel"" Tarah Schlueter and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father. Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11 AM, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant Street, Thornton. In lieu of flowersm memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Erickson Memorial Fund, c/o any Wells Fargo Bank location.
