Virginia (Gini) Hoogheem of Golden, Colorado died peacefully early Thursday morning, May 21st, 2020 at her home.
Gini was born on January 31, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois to Robert and Pauline Muzzy. When she was five years old, she moved to Denver, CO with her parents and older sister, Cristina. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1970. She met her future husband, Timothy Hoogheem in September of 1975. They married in September of 1976 in Littleton, CO. They had two daughters and one son. In 1983 the family moved to Frankfurt, Germany where they lived for four years. This was a special time for Gini of which she looked back upon fondly. In 1987, they returned to Golden, CO where she lived until her death.
Gini was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her family meant everything to her, and she would do anything to ensure their happiness. She surrounded herself by countless friends of whom she cared deeply. She had a smile that was contagious and a love for cooking that inspired many. She had a compassionate spirit and zest for life that was felt by all.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Pauline Muzzy. She is survived by her husband, Timothy Hoogheem; her sister – Cristina (Don) Dobson of Steamboat Springs, CO; her three children - Aimee (Parker) McAbery of Ridgway, CO; Elizabeth (Tucker) Richmond of Mill Valley, CA; Benjamin (Sarah) Hoogheem of West Newbury, MA; and her five grandchildren - Piper and Madeline McAbery, Cole and August Richmond, and Camille Hoogheem.
Gini was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A private family memorial service is being held. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family invites memorial contributions to be made to service projects at Rockland Community Church which will be designated by the family.
