Virginia B. Mersch

Virginia (""Gigi"") Brady Mersch died comfortably in the presence of her children after a short illness on March 5, 2017. She was born May 29, 1918, and spent her childhood with her older sister (Alma) and her younger brother (Frank) in Massachusetts. She graduated from Wellesley College with the class of 1940 and spent several years in London during World War II. It was there she married her beloved husband, John, and after living in Luxembourg, the couple ultimately returned to the Boston area. In 1949 they moved from Boston to Los Angeles and started their family of son John III (Joanne), twin daughters Kathleen (Timothy) DeMars and Susan (Greg) Riley, and daughter Patricia (Stephen) McKenna. Gigi was actively involved in the Los Angeles Chapter of the Wellesley College Club, the Santa Monica Auxiliary of Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Chapter of ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Sci¬entists). Following a career as a homemaker, she obtained her real estate license and was an award winning residential sales associate for the West Los Angeles office of Coldwell Banker. In her later years she ""treated"" herself to several trips; across the Atlantic and thru the Panama Canal on the Queen Elizabeth II, a return to London, a cruise down the Volga River in Russia and visits with a long term friend in Cape Cod, Mass¬achusetts. Her most treasured excursions were to visit family and many friends in Denver, Colorado. She is survived by her four children, eleven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter due to enter the world in the next two weeks. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Denver, Colorado, on Friday, March 17th at 10:00 am. A reception will follow at The Brown Palace Hotel in Denver, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may give to Wellesley College in memory of Virginia Brady Mersch, Class of 1940.
