Virginia Helen Speed Born October 22, 1939 Baptized November 19, 1959 Married John Speed October 11, 1958 Died July 24, 2010 Laid to Rest July 29, 2010 Virginia was born in Atlanta in 1939 but was raised in Marietta Georgia. In 1956 she moved with her parents to Japan where her father was serving in the Air Force. It was here in 1958 that she met and married John Speed who was also serving in the Air Force. From Japan the couple moved to California where they raised their daughters Sue, Valorie and Lori. Virginia was active in the Girl Scouts, Campfire Girls, PTA and was the yearly block coordinator for the American Cancer Society. The family lived in many cities in California before moving to Colorado in 1976. In 1992 John and Virginia moved to Utah and in 1995 they moved to Georgia to be near her ailing mother. In 2004 they settled for good, back in Colorado, to be close to their children and grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her daughter Sue Fay and a great granddaughter Aspen Hensen. She is survived by her husband of 51 years John, a brother Floyd Polk, daughters Valorie Thompson, Lori (Dean) Avery, Grandchildren- Clayton Fay, Crystal Hatez, Jessica Hensen, Alicia, Nicole, Tara & Joel Sisneros and Connor Avery. Great Grandchildren- David, Nikholas & Joshua Hatez, Christopher Hensen and Peyton Avery Morgan as well many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed! A Memorial Service will be Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 10am at Atonement Lutheran Church, 6281 W Yale Ave. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to The Denver Hospice or Atonement Lutheran Church.
