Vitaliy Filonenko

Vitaliy Filonenko, aged 65, of Arvada, Colorado, passed away in his residence on November, 19th, 2023. Vitaliy was born in Mozdok, Russia on May 17th, 1958 to Anatoliy and Valentina. Vitaliy attended high school before studying aircraft navigation at Chelyabinsk Military School and would later study engraving at the School of Rare Professions in Yaroslavl.

Vitaliy met the love of his life, Yelena in 1987 while he was studying in Yaroslavl. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married on August 20th, 1988 in Cherkessk, Russia.

Vitaliy and Yelena couldn’t wait to start a family of their own, and their children meant the world to them. They had a daughter Maria on January 8th, 1989 and their son, Anton on October 23rd,^, 1991. Vitaliy and his family relocated to Colorado in 1996.

Everyone who knew Vitaliy knew how much he loved fishing, catching crawdads, watching boxing, listening to The Beatles, making jewelry, cooking and sharing jokes.

Vitaliy was preceded in death by his father Anatoliy and his mother Valentina, and is survived by his wife Yelena, his daughter Maria, his son Anton and his uncle Leonti Mironenko.

Funeral services for Vitaliy will be held at Holy Transfiguration of Christ Orthodox Cathedral, 349 East 47th Ave., Denver, CO 80216. These services will be: a Viewing, held at 6pm on Thursday, November 30; this will be followed by a 7pm Panikhida (memorial). The main funeral service will be held at 10 am Friday, December 1. The Interment or Rite of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30 pm at the Arvada Cemetery, 5581 Independence St., Arvada, CO 80002. Afterwards, we will return to Holy Transfiguration Cathedral for a Memorial Meal for family and friends. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Transfiguration of Christ Orthodox Cathedral in memory of Vitaliy Filonenko.
