Wade Hurst Macklem

On Thursday, October 13, 2022, Wade Hurst Macklem passed away at the age of 53. Wade was born on August 24, 1969 to Allan and Janet Macklem in Washington DC.   He was baptized on October12, 1969 and confirmed on May 22, 1983 at Lord of Life Lutheran in Elkhorn, Nebraska.

The Macklem family was stationed at many locations during the years Wade grew up. Wade graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1987. He attended University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE. While there Wade was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and still has close friendships with many brothers.  Wade graduated from UNL with a Business Administration degree in 1991. He then went on to obtain his MBA at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  Wade and Carol met when they were in graduate school.  They dated for five years and became engaged New Years Eve 1998.  They were married on September 17, 1999 at Pacific Hills Lutheran Church in Omaha, NE.  They lived in Denver, Colorado. Their son, Gabe Allan Hurst was born on January 2, 2002.  Wonderful memories were made watching Gabe grow up.

Wade’s work career was in finance.  He was Director of Finance for Evolving Systems and Partner One.  He was an avid golfer which led to many golf trip adventures.  His love of sailing started with learning the sport from his dad.  After that there were many sailing trips in the British Virgin Islands with family members and friends. Wade was a wonderful husband and father. He loved spending time with his family and traveling with them. He was extremely invested in Gabe's life, ranging from coaching all of his athletic activities to taking many trips and adventures together just the two of them.

Wade was preceded in death by his Father-In-Law Ronald Schlake and Sister-In-Law Denise Schlake.

Wade is survived by his wife Carol of twenty three years.  His son and best friend, Gabe.  His parents Allan and Janet Macklem.  His Mother-In-Law Carolyn Schlake. His sisters, Monique Rasmussen (Mark) and Britney Coyle (Matt). Siblings-In-Law Robert Schlake, Susan Burgason (Todd), Linda Hogrefe (Jeff), David Schlake (Jen). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins on both sides of the family.

In lieu of flowers a memorial can be given to the following organizations; The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (Colorado Chapter AFSP | https://afsp.org/chapter/colorado ), and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (Rocky Mountain Chapter | Crohn's & Colitis Foundation ).
