Wallace D. Johnson
“Wally”
Born the 6th of 8 children, Wally arrived on October 22, 1944 to his parents Lawrence and Eleanor Johnson of Ocheyedan, IA . He passed away unexpectedly of heart failure on December 26, 2023, after a short illness. He grew up in Sioux City, IA, graduating from Sioux City Central briefly attending Morningside College.
He married Janet Bagley on September 5, 1964, and they had one child, Amy A. Johnson, now deceased. The family moved to the Chicago area when Wally began his 38-year employment with United Airlines, eventually transferring to Denver, Honolulu, and returning to Denver until his retirement.
Wally’s passions included cars, sports, music, and travel. His job with United enabled the family to visit Europe, Bermuda, the Caribbean, Hong Kong, and Australia, and he was especially proud of his daughter Amy’s career as a United Airlines flight attendant. One of the greatest pleasures of his retirement was fulfilling an enduring dream by owning his midnight blue 5.0 Mustang convertible.
Survivors include his wife Janet, sister Beverly Branzelton (Dan) of California, and 13 nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by daughter Amy and siblings Jackie, Joan, Kent, Norman, Catherine, and Bruce.
Plans for a memorial celebration of his life are pending.
