Walter Clark Mill was born to Melvin C. & Viola F. Mill on April 17, 1920 in Bismark, N.D. He grew up in Kirksville & New Madrid, MO. as the only son of 3 children. He graduated from East High School in Denver while his dad completed a year long course in Ophthalmology then graduated from the University of Missouri. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946 in the Pacific Theater before attending the Still College of Osteopathy in Des Moines, IA. He interned and practiced in the Denver area from 1950 to 1977 then became a professor and the chairperson of the Department of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University until retiring in 1992. He returned to Denver in 2000. From Internship to Chief of Staff at Rocky Mountain Osteopathic Hospital, Walt was also very active in the Colorado Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons & American College of Manipulative Medicine. He was certified in OB-Gyn, Surgery & Osteopathic Manipulation receiving Fellowships with the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, Academy of Osteopathy. He practiced during the era where medical house calls were common & brought over 1500 babies into the world. While teaching at MSU, Walt enjoyed two sabbaticals to Africa at the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria and was awarded a Senior Fulbright Fellowship to work at the University of Zambia. With photography being a passion, a member of the Jaskson Camera Club, the opportunity to share his personal travelogues with family, friends and organizations was a pleasure. Walt spent 10 years of active Scouting with son Michael, earning the Silver Beaver Award & Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow. In that time he was privileged to lead the Denver Area Council to Idaho for a National Jamboree as well to Mt. Fuji, Japan for a World Jamboree. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge including the Shriners, Knights Templar & a 32nd Degree Mason. Since returning to Denver, Walt has been a member of the University Park Methodist Church, attended Men's Bible Study, PEGS & enjoyed being a greeter. Walt was preceded in death by infant son Walter C. Jr. and sister Esther Luaghin. A loving husband, father & brother, Walt is survived by his wife Jeanne; children Sue (Larry) Willard, Kiowa, CO; Dr. Michael Mill(Michelle), Chapel Hill, NC; Beverly Mill(Tucson, AZ); sister Margaret Oliver, Denver, CO. Grandchildren Isabella Mill, So. Lake Tahoe, CA; Cassandra Mill, Arcata, CA; Riley & Emily Mill, Chapel Hill, NC and Josh Serlin, Tucson, AZ; as well as several nieces and nephews.
