Walter E. Kissell

Walter E. Kissell, 86, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Walter was born August 27, 1930, the eighth of ten children of Howard T. Kissell and Susie M. Gallagher of Denver. He grew up in a three bedroom house on South Lowell Boulevard, with his sisters and brothers. Walter graduated from St. Frances de Sales High School in 1948. After high school, he had a couple of jobs before going to work for Briggs Beautyware Plumbing Supply, where he eventually purchased the company with a business partner. The name was changed to Beautyware Plumbing Supply. Walter successfully helped run the company until the late 1990's when he sold his share prior to retiring. Walter had a beautiful voice. He started studying music when he was 28 years old. He sang for weddings, funerals and special occasions for many years. Walter remained a bachelor. He was a gregarious and generous man. Walter was close with his siblings and extended family. He enjoyed rides to the mountains, Colorado Springs, trips to Las Vegas, and several trips to Mobile and Montgomery Alabama to see his brother Wilbur, the priest. He treated his siblings and their spouses to a cruise that departed San Juan Puerto Rico and took them through the southern Caribbean. In later years they all took an Alaska cruise together. Walter traditionally took his siblings and their spouses to the Brown Palace for Christmas Brunch. Walter was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. Walter is survived by his sisters Vivian Leonhard (Denver), Joan (Jerry) Chouinard (Palm Beach Gardens, Florida), his brother Donald Kissell (Golden) and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Visitation and rosary will be Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Visitation will be from 6:00pm - 7:00pm, and the rosary will be from 7:00pm - 8:00pm at Horan & McConaty Funeral Service, 1091 South Colorado Boulevard, Denver, CO 80246. The funeral mass will be Thursday, March 9, 2017, 10:00am, at Church of the Risen Christ, 3060 South Monaco Parkway, Denver. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 12801 West 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, at 12:00 noon. A reception will be held at Horan & McConaty, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, 80003, from 1:00pm -3:00pm.
