Walter A. Koelbel, 85, went Home for Christmas December 25, 2011. He was the founder and Chairman of the Board of Koelbel and Company, one of the longest continually operating full service real estate development companies in Colorado. Some of its notable communities were Pinehurst Country Club, The Preserve at Greenwood Village, Cherry Hills Park, The Breakers, Centennial Promenade, Cascade Village in Vail, and Rendezvous in Winter Park. He received many distinguished awards throughout his lifetime including the Colorado Business Hall of Fame. He was one of Denver's most respected civic leaders. Loving husband of Gene Koelbel for 62 years; devoted father of Lynn (Jim) Stambaugh, Walter A. ""Buz"" (Sherri) Koelbel, Jr., Robert ""Bob"" (Deb) Koelbel, Leslie (Tom) Webb and Laurie (John) Chahbandour; proud grandfather of Carlee (Josh) Steck, Stacey Stambaugh, Brady (Jamie) Stambaugh, Cody Stambaugh, Carl Koelbel, Walt Koelbel, Dean Koelbel, Bethany Koelbel, Kyle Koelbel, Kari Koelbel, Kevin Koelbel, Tyler Webb, Claire Chahbandour and Beck Chahbandour; and brother of Harold Koelbel and Mary Rita Koelbel. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be Friday, December 30, 10 AM, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 2200 S Harrison St, Denver, followed by a reception at Cherry Hills County Club.
