Walter Kurczak

December 23, 1925 — April 2, 2016

Walter Kurczak was born on a farm outside of Tarnopol, Poland in 1925. He loved the family farm and throughout his life longed to return. In his early teens his family was greatly impacted by the onset of WWII resulting in his joining the Polish 2nd Corps in Palestine. During the war, he served in North Africa and then in Italy culminating in his participation at Monte Casino. He was awarded numerous medals for his service. After his military service in the war, he emigrated to Bradford, England where he met his eventual wife Sophie. Together they had one son, Richard. In 1956 the family moved to Chicago and lived there until 1998. During that time, Walter worked in a small manufacturing firm (Mojonnier Bros.) which provided equipment to the Beverage and Dairy industries. Beginning as a laborer, he rose to the rank of Manager and Engineer and was awarded numerous patents for his mechanical designs. He retired and subsequently moved with his wife Sophie to Littleton, Colorado where he lived until his death on April 2nd of 2016. Prior to Sophie's death in 2009, their favorite thing to do was to take long rides with no destination in mind.
