Walter Leslie Ramer passed away March 28, 2015 at the age of 93. He was born January 25, 1922, at home, to Henry and Matilda Ramer. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Doris of 60 years. He is survived by his son Richard Ramer of Newport, Washington and daughter Robin Picklo of Lakewood, Colorado, as well as 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, niece Barbara Danford and nephew Barry West. Walter is a Colorado native, graduating from North High School in Denver in 1940. He attended the Opportunity Vocational School and apprenticed at the Merrill Engineering Lab, training to become a machinist. In 1942 he joined the Army Air Corp, attending basic training in Kerns, Utah. He was then assigned to the Boeing School of Aeronautics in Oakland, California. He then went to Biggs Field in El Paso, Texas to work on B-24 bombers. While in El Paso he married Doris Hill, May 26, 1943. He was then shipped out to India, where he worked on airplane that ""flew over the hump"" to China. He served 2 years of duty before being discharged on November, 28, 1945. After his military service he returned to Denver where he obtained a job for Alfred Manufacturing. Then, in June of 1957, he began working for Martin Aerospace until his retirement in 1987. During this work phase he was involved in projects for space exploration including a lunar drill that went to the moon. In his retirement he and Doris enjoyed many traveling vacations around the United States and several cruises, including Alaska, The Panama Canal, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Walter enjoyed golfing, wood working and most of all Stain Glass work. He was able to live independently until 3 months before his death, when health issues changed his life. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, April 12th, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Horan and McConaty Family Chapel at 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood, Colorado. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Monday April 13, 2015 at 10 am, Shelter A.
