Walter 'Wally ' Stephens, 53, Littleton, CO. Husband of Jane, father of Blake and Drew, son of E. L. Stephens (Marti) Oakhurst, CA and Earline Bidwell (Marshall) , Overland Park, KS passed away of Amyloidosis, a rare blood disease that damaged his heart and other organs, on May 3, 2006. He was 53 years old. Wally was diagnosed with the disease in February and fought a courageous battle over the past three months. He is also survived by his brother Douglas 'Dusty' Stephens of Lenexa, KS, Randy Stephens of Overland Park, KS and sisters Wendy von Haasl of Colorado Springs, CO and Margo Tharp of Oakhurst, CA. Wally was born in Kansas City, MO on 01/09/53. He enlisted in the Navy in 1973 and served stateside for four years. After his service, Wally hiked the Appalachian Trail. Wally received his Bachelors of Science in Nursing and Masters in Health Administration from the University of Kansas. Wally had a deep love of music and was passionate about the guitar. He shared that love with his son Drew, teaching him how to play as a teenager. Wally taught his daughter Blake, how to play softball at a young age, serving both as her personal and team coach for many years. He attended one of Blake's softball games just a few weeks ago to cheer her on despite being sick.
