Walton Pierce

August 21, 1950 — June 5, 2008

Beloved father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, Walton ""Wally"" Pierce of Arvada passed away on June 5, 2008. Born on August 21, 1950 to Joy and Robert Pierce at St Joseph's Hospital, he spent his childhood in Aurora and Denver. Ever the businessman, he started selling comics out of a wagon that he pulled around the neighborhood and went on to mowing lawns and shoveling snow. By the time he was a teenager in Golden, he worked several jobs to include being a caddy at the Rolling Hills Golf Course, washing dishes at Holly West, being an attendant at the Falcon Car Wash and working up in Grand Lake at Polly's Sweet Shop during the summertime. He often shared memories of riding his horse up along Table Mountain and playing electric guitar in a band called The Outlaws. His love of music spanned his whole life and over the years Walt saw dozens of concerts from the Beatles to Jethro Tull to Alison Krauss. His varied and eclectic taste displayed his true appreciation of music and his ability to recognize value in almost every genre. After graduating from Wheat Ridge High School in 1968, Walt met Vicki Allen at the Scotchman Drive-in. Walt's energetic personality and offbeat sense of humor won Vicki over immediately and they were married on June 20, 1970 at the Asbury Methodist Church in Denver. Their daughter Cassie was born in 1972 and Sarah followed in 1974. His passion for fatherhood was immediate and lifelong. He parented with a wonderful balance of fun and responsibility, teaching his girls to be independent, resilient, and compassionate. Both daughters highly respected and loved their dad very much. Walt's 40 year career in drywall started by going to work with his dad Bobby and Uncle Raymond. His intelligence and attention to detail allowed him to learn the trade and excel as a true craftsman. He had a philosophy that it wasn't worth doing if it wasn't done right so his business peers and clients highly valued his work. Examples of his work can be seen all over the Denver/Boulder area and no matter the size, he took pride in every job and brought professionalism and humor along with him everyday. Walt made friends everywhere he went and made sure to help out whenever he could. From a phone call to check on a sick friend, to planting flowers for his mother, Walt's giving nature was evident and unending. Never one to complain, Walt will certainly be remembered for his generosity, integrity and individuality. Walt is survived by his daughters Cassie DeLisa and Sarah Watson; ex-wife and lifelong friend Vicki Redic; sons-in-law Thor Ackerman and JD Watson; grandsons Cody DeLisa, Trent Watson and Troy Watson; mother Joy Stockment; sisters Novella Jones, Cherrilyn Jordan and Amorita Martelli; nephews Jeremiah Jones, Eric Jordan, Tim Jordan; nieces Karina Callahan, Sarah Jordan and Maggie Jordan; great nieces Isis Jones Callahan, Mary Jones and Hope Udarbe; great nephews Jakob Callahan and Allen Udarbe. Walt will be very missed by all that knew him. The family requests any donations be made to the Denver Rescue Mission at http://www.denverrescuemission.org. A service to honor Walt will take place at the Horan & McConaty Funeral Home at 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd in Lakewood at 2:00 pm on Monday June 16, 2008. Viewing will be held between 1:00-1:45 and a celebration of his life will follow the service at 1357 S. Zephyr Court in Lakewood.
