Warren R. Guymon

August 27, 1924 — October 29, 2013

Warren was born on August 27, 1924 in Los Angeles, California to Richard and Laurette Guymon, thus becoming little brother to Gil, 1 year old. As a young family, they resided happily in their Hollywood Hills home for many years. The whole family was keenly interested in sports. In particular, Warren enjoyed football and basketball. Warren had a natural gift in basketball we were told during his younger years. At the age of 14, Warren had a life altering event; he graduated from middle school, a time of transition and accomplishment. Tragically, his father, Richard, passed away the very same day. Warren, 14, and his brother Gil, 15, took on jobs to help their mother, Laurette. Young teens became responsible, caring young men. When he was 17 years old, Warren enlisted in the US Navy (The Day after Pearl Harbor). Proudly, he served his country by becoming a valuable asset in the ""Silent Service' on the USS Billfish. The ""Silent Service"" was the elite submarine patrol during World War II. We remember our dad sharing vividly his exciting and dangerous missions, by describing how they patrolled the South Pacific and the Sea of Japan. Warren was the radioman who detected the enemy vessels. His submarine crew distinguished themselves for the number of ""hits and sanks"". After he was honorably discharged, he worked for the telephone company in Los Angeles, California. While he was working as a cable man, he met his future, stunning wife-to-be, Marie Duncan. He fondly always said mom was 'a real looker'. From a man hole outside the telephone office, he saw these beautiful set of legs walk by everyday at the same time. Spellbound, dad asked mom out on a date. Dad fell in love with mom on their first date. Smitten he proposed that same night! They were partners, sharing their life for over 63 years. Dad's real legacy was his devotion to his wife and three daughters, Terri, Deneen and Gail. Our family and extended family were tight knit; loving and living in our Woodland Hills, California home. Our parents, Warren and Marie hosted pool parties, football parties and dance parties. In fact, their home was the gathering place for friends, family and classmates. Warren's next career was as a motorcycle policeman for the Los Angeles Police Department. During his 20 year career, citizens, co-officers, and families always said dad reached out to them making a difference in their lives. He was well respected and well liked, also he was known for his slightly rebellious spirit and for pulling pranks. In 1992, Warren and Marie, Terri, their oldest daughter, and Michael, their grandson, moved to Castle Rock, Colorado; thereby, joining Gail, their youngest daughter, and Christian, their grandson. Always the close-knit loving family was soon joined by Deneen, the middle daughter, Allison and Danny who moved to Castle Rock. Warren was the father figure to all his grandkids. He enjoyed going to many of their sporting events and school events. Warren was retired, but grew restless. His next career was working for First Data, then the subsidiary of Western Union. The employees became like dad's second family. He was loved and liked by so many. In fact, wherever he work and lived, he was well known. He treated people with dignity, respect and always shared a smile. He was known for his outgoing nature, kind heart, and jokes. He so loved his great grandkids: Hayden and Isabella. He enjoyed neighbors so much so that they became family friends. Warren, our dad, was called to heaven on October 29, 2013 in Lone Tree, Colorado. A week before his passing, he truly accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord. All of heaven is rejoicing along with Father Andrew, who led him to the path of Salvation. Warren is preceded in death by daughter Teresa K. Guymon. He is survived by his wife Marie, his daughters Gail Aitken and Deneen Milewsky. Grandfather of Michael Guymon, Allison Gilmore, Danny Milewsky, Christian Aitken. Great grandfather of Haydn & Isabella Gilmore. Brother of Gil Guymon. Funeral Mass Friday, November 8, 2013, 12:00pm, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 S. Quebec St. Centennial. Interment Saturday, November 9, 2013, 9:00am, Fort Logan National Cemetery, Area ""A"".
