Wayne Cahill

September 14, 1944 — March 2, 2023

Arvada, Colorado

The world lost a strong Democrat and a great union man when Wayne Edwin Cahill, age 78, passed away on March 2, 2023 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Wayne, born on September 14, 1944 to Burr John and Francis Byrdene (Smith) Cahill, was a member of the class of 1962 at Queen Anne High School in Seattle, Washington. Wayne spent 25+ years at the Seattle Times Newspaper, where he was also actively involved in supporting employee rights through his service with the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Guild. Following this career, Wayne’s commitment to the plight of the common man took him from the Seattle Times to positions as Administrative Officer of the Philadelphia Newspaper Guild (1991 to 1997) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and then as Administrative Officer of the Hawaii Newspaper Guild (1997 to 2010) in Honolulu, Hawaii. Wayne also served his community through many local service organizations, including the Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Aloha United Way.

Wayne’s life wasn’t just focused on the common man. More importantly, Wayne was also a family man. And he and his wife of more than 56 years, Marcia Ann McIntier, focused most of their time and energy on their family, which included one son, three daughters, fourteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. With the exception of a slice of Marcia’s homemade rhubarb pie, nothing brought greater joy than participating in a key event in the lives of his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.

Wayne was also a man of faith, having grown up in the Methodist Church of Seattle, Washington.  Later as an adult, he was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 24, 1965. Wayne served his church family with as much vigor and dedication as he served his own family, and in many different capacities. Most notably, Wayne served as a Bishop of the Makiki Ward in Honolulu Hawaii from 2004 to 2010. Later, after retirement, Wayne and Marcia returned to their home in Everett, Washington where they served together as volunteer missionaries in the Washington Everett Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Wayne continued to serve throughout the rest of his earthly life, most recently as Sunday School President in the Arvada 3rd Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints. We know that Wayne’s love of service to family, God, and his fellow men continues. And we would be surprised if he doesn’t already have an assignment to serve in the hereafter.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Marcia, their son Eric (Danena) Cahill of Atlanta, GA, and daughters Melanie (Russ) Olson of Lakewood, CO, Annette Jackson of Little Rock, AR, and Sheri (Rick) Olson of Arvada, CO, fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his older brother John (Andrea Dahl) Cahill of Lake Forest Park, WA as well several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister Sandy.
