Wayne Russell Glass, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on December 8, 2023, at the age of 65 after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Texas to Samuel Fielding Glass Jr and Yvonne Blangger Glass on September 3, 1958, the last of 6 boys.
Wayne grew up in the Austin area and worked various jobs. Finally settling in the commercial collections business, where he gained a reputation for his skill and received several awards. This job gave him the opportunity to work in various locations. One which brought him to Louisiana where he met and became the loved father figure and Pawpaw to 5 wonderful girls. Shannon, JoDee, Jamie, Janelle and Jade (predeceased).
Over 10 years later the 2005 tragedy of Hurricane Katrina brought him with only his green duffle bag and his pet parrot Scarlette to Colorado, where he started a new life. Soon after he met his wife, and in 2009 the cowboy married the princess in Estes Park. This made Wayne once again a father figure and a cherished step-grandfather to Je'Anne Sowell, Divine Swain, Cadence Dixon, and Sabian Jr Riley, as well as a step-great-grandfather to Lena Menchaca.
All though Waynes chosen profession was collections he felt his true calling was helping to care for the many children that came into his life. Often saying he was "just the producer" of all his wonderful contributions.
Wayne was a man of simple pleasures. He enjoyed a trip up the hill to Blackhawk and taking road trips to visit family. Or just staying home relaxing in his recliner with his much-loved dog Mitsy sleeping in his lap. He also loved to tell a good tale, often giving the truth, the "everything is bigger in Texas" upgrade. He loved to bring a smile to people's faces with his stories.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Kimberly, and his stepchildren, Jina Riley, Justin Dixon and wife Simone, and his grandchildren. Wayne is also survived by his brothers, Richard Glass and wife Bettye, Bill Glass and wife Pam, Bob Glass and wife Kathy, Bud Glass and wife Debbie, and John Glass and wife Sylvia and many nieces and nephews.
A gathering to honor Wayne's life will be held at Horan & McConaty, located at 11150 E Dartmouth in Aurora, Colorado, on Saturday, January 13, at 12pm (noon). With a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that charitable donations be made in Wayne's honor to any Cancer charity of your choosing.
Please join us in celebrating Wayne's life and sharing cherished memories of him.
