Willard Martin Davis (""Bill""), age 98, died at home on Sunday, March 5, 2017. Willard was born April 14, 1918 on a homestead 15 miles southeast of Chugwater, WY. His family moved around Nebraska during his grade school years. Willard attended grade schools in Geneva, Martland and Kimball Nebraska. The family finally settled in Cheyenne, WY and Willard graduated from high school in Cheyenne in 1936. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad stores department in Cheyenne in 1941. Willard was drafted into the military in April 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a radar mechanic. Tours of duty included Trinidad and Italy. At the end of the war, he returned to his job at Union Pacific Railroad. He worked at several locations including Cheyenne, WY, Ogden, UT and Denver, CO. He worked for the railroad for 37 years, retiring in 1978. Willard was a quiet man who was devoted to his family. He married Bessie McReynolds in 1955 in Loveland, CO. He enjoyed rebuilding car engines, spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting, and in later years, building/using computers. He also enjoyed remodeling houses. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Bessie Davis; daughters Carolyn Ufer (Jay), and Sandra Christine Davis (Andreas Beuschel), both of Colorado; sister Lois Wiemann, Texas; grandchildren Alyssa Ufer, Danielle Ufer and Jonah Beuschel. Willard was preceded in death by parents Roy and Pearl Davis, brother Loren Davis, and sister Fern Schoel. Services will be held at 10am, Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home, 3101 S. Wadsworth, Lakewood, CO. Burial will follow at 11:30am at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave. Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations in Willard's honor may be made to The Salvation Army or an organization of your choice.
