Willi Jim Plattner

October 1, 1922 — June 4, 2020

Willi Jim Lasater Plattner was born in Dunlap, Tennessee, October 1, 1922 and passed away peacefully from natural causes, June 4, 2020 at the age of 97. Seventy-seven years earlier, on this day, she married Herman Plattner of Coffeeville, Kansas. As newlyweds they made their way to Jewett, Texas and took over a medical practice. Herman was the Osteopathic Doctor and Willi Jim the nurse. Several years later, with their son, Kenneth (d.2006) the family moved to Grand Prairie, Texas where children Philip and Lisa were born. Willi Jim worked for many years as a nurse at the Plattner Clinic and Hospital. Herman died in 2006 and Willi Jim resided in Grand Prairie until 2019, when she moved to a retirement home in Greenwood Village, Colorado, with her cat Sonic, to be near her daughter. Willi Jim loved her family and leaves behind Anita Plattner, Philip and Peggy Plattner, Jim and Lisa McClanahan, grandchildren Ita, Willa and her husband Bryan, Lola, Will and great grandson Sati. She has numerous nephews and nieces whom she adored. Willi Jim was active in her church, Faith Lutheran and later became a regular at the Summit senior center. Willi Jim was never far from a needle and thread. She could sew and mend anything. She also had an exceptional eye for beauty and design. She loved cooking and whatever she put on the table was flavorful and delicious, including fried okra. Willi Jim created a family home that was warm and inviting to all. She remained active, curious and engaged in the world around her. She was a wise and intelligent woman, valedictorian of her high school and of her nursing class in Kirksville, Missouri. She was full of wisdoms, two of which she shared often, “We’re not in charge of much,” and, if one were stressed, she’d say “lower your expectations”. She will be missed by all who knew her and those of us who knew her, know we’ve lost someone special and beloved.
Willi Jim will be buried in a private family burial, June 20th. A celebration of life will be held October 10, 2020 at Faith Lutheran Church, in Grand Prairie, Texas, virus permitting. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 2200 SW 3rd St. Grand Prairie, TX 75051.
