William ""Bill"" A'Hern

January 1, 1928 — October 11, 2019

William ""Bill"" A'Hern of Lakewood passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019 at Lutheran Medical Center.

He was the third baby born in Denver on January 1, 1928, the son of Neal and Nan (Horan) A'Hern who were a pioneer family of Colorado. One of Bill's favorite memories was traveling to Ireland at the age of 9 with his mother and brother to spend the summer with their Irish relatives. Bill worked to pay his tuition in order to attend Regis High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He returned home after his service and graduated from University of Denver. Bill and Gere met at an SAE fraternity party and were married on October 11, 1953. Even though Bill passed away on their anniversary, they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. Bill was known for his quick wit and his ability to always make others laugh. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Bill owned and operated Bill A'Hern Insurance Agency in Lakewood, which still serves the insurance needs of Denver to this day. He held various officer and advisory roles with the local Independent Insurors and the National Agents Advisory Council.

He was a member of The Club at Rolling Hills for over 50 years and served as one of their presidents. Bill was a devoted husband and father but he also loved his golf and gin rummy games with his longtime friends at Rolling Hills. He was known for his long drives, accurate putts, and his competitive gin skills.

Bill was a Denver Broncos fan and faithfully attended games through the ups and downs of the Broncos seasons. More than the Broncos, Bill was an avid Notre Dame fan. Even though he did not attend Notre Dame he couldn't help but support a team of Fighting Irish since he considered himself a fighting Irishman too.

Bill and Gere enjoyed traveling and returned to Ireland many times to see Bill's relatives and enjoy the beautiful country. For over 35 years, they owned a home with friends in Treasure Cay, Abaco, Bahamas. Bill loved the convenience of driving his golf cart to the course and just ""walking on"" to play a round of golf. One of the two hole-in-ones he had was in Treasure Cay, although sadly it was only ""witnessed by God.""

In addition to his cherished wife, Gere, his precious daughter, Kerry Heurlin and her husband, Bob; grandson, Carter and his wife, Cassady; granddaughter, Hannah Heurlin; as well as his nieces and nephew, Linda Williamson, Tom McNassor and Nancy A'Hern, survive him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Nan, brother Neil and sister Nanette.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 1985 Miller St, Lakewood, CO 80215.
