William C. ""Carl"" Arey

William C. ""Carl"" Arey, age 80, passed away May 5, 2015. He was born September 1934 in Washington, D.C. to Lester and Lucille Arey. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Bernice Hazen Arey, daughter Becky (Jamie) Woodruff and son Tim (Dee Ann) Arey; grandchildren Brittany (Aaron) Dignan, Zach Ancell, Bayleigh, Kinsey and Madi Arey ; great grandchild Huxley Dignan; sister Reffa Mayne and brothers Richard Arey and Wayne Arey. He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Ted. After graduating from Creston High School in 1952, Carl served in the Navy and was stationed in Key West, Florida. He married his high school sweetheart, Bernice Hazen, on December 12, 1954. After his military service, Carl owned a Vespa motorcycle dealership for three years. The family then moved to Iowa where he was employed as a fireman for the Burlington Railroad, Carl started at UPS in 1965 as a delivery driver and through his hard work, advanced to management and retired in 1990. After retirement, Carl and Bernice had a retirement home in Mesquite, Nevada. They traveled back and forth for several years. Carl loved traveling and playing golf and was very proud that he played in all 50 states. In 2008, William and Bernice become some of the very first residents of VI at Highlands Ranch Retirement Community. A Memorial service for Carl will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 2 p.m. at VI at Highlands Ranch, 2850 Classic Dr, Highlands Ranch, CO. Burial will take place later this fall at Evergreen Cemetery in Creston, IA.
