William 'Bill' Henry Bartlett

February 4, 1928 — September 22, 2011

Bill was born in Ogdensburg, New York on the banks of the St. Lawrence River to Alfred and Helen Bartlett in 1928. Bill was the youngest of three sons and grew up idolizing and playing sports with his older brothers Edwin and Bob. His family moved to Pennsylvania while he was in High School. At Germantown Academy, he excelled as a three-sport athlete (football, baseball, and basketball) and scholar. He attended Union College, in Schenectady, New York, where he continued playing sports and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. With his technical knowledge and aptitude for sales, Bill began his career at Johns-Manville in New York City. After a short time at JM, duty called him to serve his country in the Army during the Korean War. With his background in electrical engineering Bill worked in radar and communications, was honorably discharged and very proud of his service to his country. Bill came back to JM, where he worked for 38 years until retirement. During his time at Manville, Bill was the Chairman of the Electrical Insulation Conference and on the board of the American Fluid Association. While living in Albany, he met the love of his life on a golf course! He knew that Diane Codling was 'the one,' and they married on September 7, 1957. Bill and Diane loved the game of golf and continued to play regularly until he was 75 years old. Upon retirement, Bill and Diane moved to a beautiful golfing community called Rio Verde in Arizona where he and Diane lived the good life with the 3rd garage for the Golf Cart! Bill and Diane had three children, Kathy, Edwin, and Trish whom Bill loved and supported throughout his life. They returned to Colorado to be closer to their family in 2004. While living in New York, Bill regularly took the family into the City to see shows, Yankees games, shop, and eat at fabulous restaurants. Those memories of growing up in New York will stay with us all forever. In 1973, JM relocated to Ken Caryl Ranch, Colorado and the Bartlett family headed west! Moving from a suburb of NYC to a house in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with dirt roads, stables, and a huge Red Rock formation behind the house was a life changing experience for everyone. Bill joined Pinehurst Country Club and passed on his love of tennis and golf on to his family. He loved the mountains and introduced his children to skiing at Vail and Aspen early in their lives. Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Diane; son, Edwin (Angela); daughters Kathy and Trish (Craig) Silverman; grandchildren, Audrey, Lindsey, and Molly Bartlett, Ben and Sam Silverman, Jason and Crystal Vincent; and his beloved niece and nephews. God speed to a loving husband, father and grandfather. A Funeral Mass will be held in Bill's honor on Thursday, October 6th, at 11:00 AM at Horan and McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road, Centennial, Colorado 80122. Bill will be buried with military honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery following the Funeral Mass.
