William Alan Blumberg (Bill), age 75, died in his home in Aurora, Colorado on May 6, 2024 with his wife and son at his side. He died of natural causes losing his battle against metastatic melanoma. 

Bill was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee and graduated from Brainerd High School. He and his brother Al were the first Jewish brothers to simultaneously attend the United States Air Force Academy. Bill graduated in the class of 1971. He later earned a MBA from the University of Northern Colorado.

After attending flight training, Bill flew the C-130 Hercules during the Vietnam conflict and upon leaving active duty, he served with the Wyoming Air National Guard as a Command Pilot. He maintained a lifelong interest in aviation but went on to serve in many other capacities in his parallel civilian and military careers.

Bill met his wife Theresa during lunch at the Air Force Academy Officers Club in 1980 and married three years later. Bill faithfully served the Air Force Academy for 33 years as an Admissions Liaison Officer advising and evaluating candidates for nomination to the Academy then ultimately serving as Commander for the Northern Region of Colorado. Bill and Theresa both retired from the Air Force Reserves as Colonels after each served 30 years.

Bill was a stellar athlete throughout his high school and college years excelling in track. He fostered both athleticism and strong academic performance as he raised their son and daughter with Theresa.

Bill is survived by his wife; their son, 2d Lieutenant Bart Blumberg; and their daughter, Zayne Schony of Bettendorf, Iowa. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Nelson but preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Al.

Funeral service will take place at the Memorial Pavilion at the Air Force Academy on Thursday, May 23 at 10 am. Burial will immediately follow with military honors at the adjoining cemetery. There will be a reception after the interment. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
