Childhood: William Alan Brooks was born on September 17th 1958 in California. He was the boy in the middle of two sisters, Susan Tellis and Donna Reynolds, and he would make sure his sisters knew he was there. As a child he was very close with his family and loved to be around any family he could. Not only did he grow up with his immediate family, but his extended family where he hung out with his cousins on a regular basis. He respected and loved his parents Raymond and Roberta Brooks. He joined royal rangers which my grandfather helped lead. He loved and respected his father as they did all sorts of things together. As a family one of their favorite things to do was go camping and William brought that into Richard and Lisa Brooks' life. As he, his sisters, his mother and his father continued in life and grew closer to God he began to think on and hear from God in a way that became personal to him. He began to learn to hear the voice of God for himself. Teenage-Young Adult: In William Brooks' teenage years he began to work out his salvation. He began to get plugged into his youth group and learned to desire God with everything that was in him. He was faithful to his youth group and even became a leader when he graduated. In these times he gave his life totally surrendered to God, listening to and obeying God's voice. As he graduated from high school he continued to stay engaged in ministry as a leader in Bible studies. God began to speak to him about serving him in ways he never had before. God called him to share the Gospel with people around the world in his young adult years and my father not only willingly, but joyfully accepted. Missions: William Brooks joined youth with a mission and Macedonian missions to fulfill that call. He went to Hawaii, Belize, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, and learned 5 different languages English, French, Spanish, Dutch, Flemish with one purpose: to share that Jesus gave his life for the forgiveness of man's sin and for the strength to live a life honoring to God. William Brooks' heart was one set on sharing Jesus with the world because Jesus changed his world forever. He wanted everyone to know the hope that God provided through Jesus and that was seen clearly through how God poured out mercy and compassion on people through his time on the mission's field and even in Richard and Lisa's lives. Father: At the end of his time in the mission's field, Richard and his sister Lisa were brought into his life. As young children he cherished them. He would take them on trips that he would always make sure were documented with pictures or videos. As they got older he began to speak to them and help them in different ways. Even when they were not as enthralled by the idea of going to church, he always wanted to. Richard remembers when he was at a point where he became serious about God, he learned how to tithe because he would see William faithfully put his tithe in the offering every week. He desired to know God with all that He was. He would play Bible Trivial pursuit with Richard and Lisa and even after some Bible college, he would still kick their butts. He always wanted to learn more and he always challenged them to do the same. He was so proud of the fact that his children were in ministry and he would share that with everyone. What he did not see was that his commitment to God, desire for more knowledge of God and his desire for his children to grow in God were major reasons as to why they are who they are today. Conclusion: When thinking about what would define William Brooks and his life poem Richard was brought immediately to this Scripture, Psalm 119: 97-104 ""97 Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. 98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. 99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation. 100 I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts. 101 I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word. 102 I do not turn aside from your rules, for you have taught me. 103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.""
