William Charles Courtney II (Bill) passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on March 27, 2025. He was born on July 11, 1941, in Los Angeles, California, to William and Evelyn Courtney.
Bill spent part of his life in Visalia, California, where he attended Mount Whitney High School, graduating in 1959. He then attended College of the Sequoias from 1959 to 1961 before earning a baseball scholarship to the University of San Francisco, where he graduated in 1964. During his younger years, he spent many summers in Sequoia National Park, working as a mule-packing guide.
Bill met the love of his life, Judy, at the age of eight after delivering a birthday card to her. Their childhood friendship grew into a lifelong love, and they dated through high school before marrying on June 15, 1963. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three children: Shawn, Shannon, and Shelley.
Bill worked in the clothing manufacturing industry, a career that took him and his family across the western United States and to Central America. Eventually, they settled in the mountains of Evergreen, Colorado, where he found joy in nature and the comfort of home. Above all, Bill cherished his faith in God and his family. He loved fishing, playing golf, and watching his grandchildren compete in their activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved son Shawn, and his brother John Courtney.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Judy; his daughter-in-law, Sonya (Shawn), and their two children, Reed and Rachel; his daughter Shannon (Jay) and their two sons, Payton, and Corte (Hannah); and his daughter Shelley and her daughters, Cailee and Courteney. He is also survived by his sister, Chris (Don); his brother, Gilbert (Robin); his sister-in-law, Carol; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on April 7 at 11 a.m. at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 5303 E County Line Rd, Centennial, CO 80122. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Bill’s kindness, unwavering faith, and love for his family will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Big Hairy.
Please share memories and condolences with Bill's family by signing the guestbook.
