William B. Cox, 88, passed away December 17, 2022. Bill was born on January 24, 1934, in Provo, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernice Grace (Bower) Cox and William Arnold Cox and younger brothers Jack A. Cox and Robert B. Cox. Survivors include daughters Lisa Cox of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Lori Cox-Paul (Eli) of Kansas City, Missouri; and nephews Jack A., Jr. (Suzan); Richard S. (Marie); Michael R. (Diane); and Brandon W. (Jenny). Bill was united in marriage with Dorsey Bodeman in 1964 and later divorced.
Bill graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem in 1952. He attended college for one year at Utah State University before receiving a commission to attend the United States Naval Academy, graduating in 1957. He served on the U.S.S. St. Paul (1957 – 1960) and U.S.S. George K. MacKenzie (1960 – 1962). After leaving the Navy, Bill worked at Martin Marietta as an aerospace engineer from 1962 until his retirement in 1995. Bill worked on a variety of programs, including Titan I and Titan II ICBMs, Titan Launch Vehicles, Skylab, Space Shuttle, and Classified Programs.
Bill was a four-sport letter winner in high school and continued to enjoy competitive sports throughout his life. Bill officiated high school sports including basketball, football, and track & field for over 50 years. He was recognized with numerous awards and was inducted into the Colorado Football Officials Hall of Fame in 2005. He continued starting and refereeing track meets through spring 2022.
Bill was an avid golfer, playing in multiple leagues, but he treasured playing with his family the most. He also enjoyed playing the ponies at various race tracks. He was a devoted Denver Broncos fan and had been a season ticket holder since 1962.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 9, 2023, 12pm, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood. Burial will follow at 1:30pm, Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area B.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
