William Michael Dollins

September 21, 1944 — April 11, 2013

William Michael Dollins was born in September 1944 in Long Beach, CA to Welbo and Ann Dollins. In his youth he discovered the first love of his live, surfing. As a teenager he purchased a used Chevy coupe dragster, which kindled a lifelong love of drag racing. In October of 1967, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado. It was during this time that he met the true love of his life, Judy, and they were married at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in October of 1969. Mike transitioned from being a professional race car driver to a career in real estate in 1971, but he continued working in the sport of drag racing part-time until 1993. In August of 1973, Mike and Judy celebrated the birth of their first child, Shannon. They moved to California and welcomed their son Randy in 1976. Returning to Colorado in 1979 they purchased the home where they would raise their family and live for 19 years. In the mid 90's, Mike and Judy became empty nesters. After a number of years attending Mass with his family, Mike officially joined the Catholic Church on Easter of 1999. In July of 2001, Mike was diagnosed with cancer. The next August he was thrilled to walk his daughter down the aisle. After several years of fighting his cancer through holistic means, it became necessary to use more drastic methods. In the fall of 2004, after extensive treatments, he was declared cancer free; just in time to welcome his first grandson Ander. In May of 2007, Mike was delighted to witness the priestly ordination of his son Randy. Early the next year, with the birth of Deagan, he became a grandpa for a second time. Lasting side effects of the radiation therapy for his cancer proved challenging and over a number of years took its toll on his health. On April 10, 2013, Mike was admitted to the hospital with complications stemming from pneumonia, and he passed away the next day in the presence of his family. He is survived by his wife Judy, son Fr. Randy, daughter Shannon, her husband Paul, and their two sons Ander and Deagan. He will be greatly missed by all.
