William F. Dowell

William F. Dowell US Army Lt. Colonel (Ret) Bill, 90, passed away on February 28, 2013. Colonel Dowell was a patriotic American who proudly and honorably served his country during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was a loving husband and father, selflessly providing for his family throughout his entire life. After concluding his military career, he continued to serve his country as Chief of Security at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Commerce City, Colorado. After completing his second career, Colonel Dowell stayed at the Arsenal facility and helped in the transition to an Urban Wildlife Refuge, volunteering his time and energy there up until the time of his passing. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Edeltraut (Trudy); sister Dorothy (Deane); and parents Marie and William J. Dowell. He is survived by his four children Dona M. (Bill) Shue, William F. (Patti) Dowell, Steven R. (Kareyann) Dowell, Robert M. Dowell; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Visitation Tuesday, March 5, 1200 hrs (12 noon) with Funeral Mass to follow at 1300 hrs (1:00 pm) at Buckley Air Force Base Chapel, 18401 E A-Basin St, Aurora. Committal Service with full military honors Wednesday, March 6, 1100 hrs (11:00 am) at Ft Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area A. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Front Range Wildlife Refuge, c/o Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR, Bldg 121, Commerce City, CO 80022.
