Dr. William James Garehime of Centennial, Colorado died unexpectedly last Monday, September 21st at the age of 66. An oral surgeon, Bill joined the practice of his father, Dr. Donavon Garehime in 1984 and had great satisfaction in his work and affection for his many patients. Bill’s two great loves were his family and the natural world. He was born in Denver and, except for dental school at Northwestern University in Chicago, Bill lived his entire life in Colorado. He met his wife, Amie, at Colorado State University and they were given the gift of almost 45 years of marriage. He taught his children, William, Margaret and Christopher to fish, hike, hunt, love dogs, play golf, ski, and respect the natural world. These blessings had been passed down to him from his parents; and in sharing them with his children he passed on the deep love of family. He had begun to pass on these passions to his grandchildren when he was taken far too early. His children and friends will now fill this hole. His many trips with friends and family throughout Colorado, Alaska and the Dakotas were of great joy to him.
Bill is survived by his wife, Amie (Brownlee), a sister, Peg (Slothower), three children and their spouses, William and Kelly Garehime; Margaret and Tommy Mills; Christopher Garehime and Caitlin May and nine grandchildren, Thomas, Heidi, and Caroline Mills; Will, Claire, Morgan and Jack Garehime; and Isa and Ian Garehime and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Donavon and Jane Garehime.
A private service of Christian burial will take place next Saturday, led by his sister-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Annette Brownlee. A public service of the celebration of life will follow next spring. Bill’s family asks you to hug your loved ones and receive each day as a gift.
