William ""Bill"" A. Godby

William ""Bill"" Andrew Godby, 85, passed away Wednesday, May, 17, 2017 at Saint Anthony Hospital in Lakewood. He passed peacefully with his family surrounding him with love and prayer. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jeri (Bennett) Godby; his daughters, Cindy Ellis (Danny); Leslie Pless (Mark); his sons, Billy Godby (Shereice); Gregg Robinson (Linda); nine grandchildren, Nicole Allen, William Austin Godby, Tyler Godby, Ashley Sikes, Tim Godby, Jonathan Pless, Timothy Pless, Caitlin Robinson, Lauren Robinson; eight great-grandchildren, Sophia Godby, Bella Godby, Hannah Godby, Rylie Godby, Olivia Godby, Charlee Allen, Jace Allen, Brayden Godby, and many close friends. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Godby; mother Nancy Godby; brother Don Godby; sister Mary Lou Smelege; son, Timothy Godby; and brother-in-law and best friend, Bob Lear. Bill was born on December 9, 1931 to William and Nancy (DelGuidice) Godby and was raised in Gamerco, New Mexico. Bill graduated from Gallup High School in 1950. He was married to Faye (Crabb) Godby in 1950. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 and honorably discharged in 1954. He attended New Mexico State University, graduating in 1959 with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. In 1963, Bill started working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and in 1968 was transferred to Washington D.C. In 1972 he became the Chief Engineer of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the Denver Regional Office. After 31 years, Bill retired from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1995. Bill married Jeri (Bennett) Godby in 1984. They resided in Lakewood. Colorado. Bill's passion was spending time with family, hunting, fishing, golfing and going to Black Hawk for occasional gambling. He was known for his loving, kind and giving heart. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and friend. Everyone who knew Bill loved him. His legacy will live on and will be cherished forever. Heaven is gaining an amazing angel. A public viewing will be Friday. May 26 from 6:00 -7:00 PM at Horan and McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO 80227. A funeral service will be on Saturday, May 27 at 10:00 AM at Horan and McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO 80227 followed by burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 11:30 AM, Area B. A reception will follow the burial at the funeral home open for anyone who wishes to attend. Memorials in Bill's name may be made to the charity of your choice.
