William “Bill” Robert Lang, Jr. died peacefully at home on July 30th, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Beverly, Massachusetts on September 16th, 1938, to his parents William “Bob” Lang and Eva Lang.
Anyone who met Bill could immediately tell where he was from by his unmistakable Boston accent. He grew up in Danvers, Massachusetts where he attended Holten High School. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Norwich University in Vermont and then served in the United States Army for two years. He then embarked on his lifelong career as a Federal Agent for the US Immigration and Naturalization Service. On January 13th, 1968, Bill married the love of his life, Maureen Cecelia Lang (Higgins). They had two children Colleen Ann Hendy and William Robert Lang, III.
Bill was a loving husband and an amazing father throughout his life. He was a man of the highest character serving the country he loved for his entire career. He enjoyed golfing, boating, reading, horses, and crossword puzzles. He always enjoyed a good conversation with people as anyone who encountered him at the Burlington Post Office/Courthouse in his post-retirement job as a court security officer could attest. His friendly demeanor, quick smile, and good sense of humor put people at ease. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his four wonderful grandchildren, Megan and Lauren Hendy, and AJ and Brady Lang.
Bill’s impact on his community was evidenced by his award from the Mayor of Hartford, Connecticut, designating March 12th,1976 as William R. Lang, Jr. Day in the City of Hartford.
