William Mamula

December 23, 1943 — February 27, 2013

Bill Mamula was born on December 23, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA to Leonore and Bernard Mamula. He was the oldest of 4 children and grew up in Pittsburgh. He went to Connley Vocational School. After high school, he was in the Army doing communications and was stationed in Alaska for 4 years. He moved to Denver and lived with the Haywood Family (Jim, Marie, Jeanie, Joe, Jimmy and Susie). Bill got his Economics Degree while Jeanie was preparing to be a nun at the time. They soon fell in love and he coaxed her out of the convent and into a loving marriage that began on April 19, 1974. Within 6 months, they were married, adopted a 6-year-old and Jeanie became pregnant with their son, Matt. His family became the center of his world. He adored his children which was evident in observing them all together. It was a pleasure watching Bill parent. When it came to Matt and his grandchildren, he did not know how to use the word ""No"". He worked as an accountant for Haywood Brothers for many years and left to work as an accountant and part-time beta tester for Quark for 5 years. He then decided to start his own heating and air-conditioning business as a mechanical engineer until he retired in 2008. He then began the life he truly loved. Bill was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He spent his final years handcrafting and completely remodeling their beautiful home inside and out. They traveled with friends and family around the world, SCUBA diving and enjoying life. ""Bobba M"" as his two wonderful grandchildren called him, spent countless hours being the dream grandparent. He often drove to Castlerock to spent time with Amy, Matt and their children, Caleb and Mason. Bill loved helping them with all sorts of projects. Bill was, as Jeanie refers to him, their best friend and favorite toy. They spent hours going to the Rec Center, playing raquetball, swimming, biking, hiking and wrestling. There was a rare, inseparable bond between them. It was hard to have a conservation with Bill that did not involve laughter and stories of his kids and grandkids. His love for Jeanie was immeasurable. Everyone loved Bill! How could you not? Bill was so much fun to talk to! He didn't know chit-chat. When you talked to Bill, he dove deep into conversation and truly talked to you. He was kind, gentle, generous, giving and most of all, loved by everyone in this room. We will miss you so much, Bill and hold our many treasured memories of you deep in our hearts. We know you are now in the loving arms of God. There will be a Visitation on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 4:00 PM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood, Colorado. Funeral Service is on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM also at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel with a reception following.
