William F. Shaw, Jr.

October 5, 1932 — February 9, 2018

William ""Bill"" Shaw, Jr, a resident of Aurora, Co for 18 years, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at the age of 85. Bill was born in Jersey City, NJ to William and Mildred (Fredericks) Shaw, and twin brother to Jack (Ve). He enlisted in the Air Force at age 17 and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base. In 1953, he married the Love of His Life, Shirley (Barone). Marrying into a large Italian family, his name was quickly changed to ""Tony."" They were married for 55 years at her death. They had three children, Debi (Russ), Sharon (Steve), and Bill. Bill had 6 grandchildren, Jenni, nicole (Justin), Derek, Chauntele (Chet), Tiffany and Ashley (Preston); 16 great-grandchildren, Kristen, Vanessa, Britney, Brice, Jr., Cheyenne, Kora, Chanele, Michael, Amelia, Chayden, Isaac, Paislee, Chylie, Colton, Gabriel and Chalyn; 6 great-great-grandchildren, Tanner, Brayden, Grayson, Ryder, Brilee and Luke. Our Dad was a devoted family man. who worked two jobs all his life to support his family until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed family gatherings, holidays, picnics and simple dinners with the family. Our Mom and Dad kept their Faith as the center of their marriage. They raised their family to love God. In 2005, they began saying the Divine Mercy Chaplet every day at the 3 o'clock hour. This devotion Dad continued even after the death of our Mom. Dad and Mom were exquisite dancers. They belonged to the American Legion for approximately 45 years. Every Saturday evening, they went out on the town to dinner and dancing. Since Dad loved to sing, he was on occasion invited to sing at the piano bars. Many times a child or grandchild was sung to sleep by the beautiful voice of their grandfather in his arms. Dad loved sports. He played on a Men's Lincoln Park baseball league for many years until he and his wife began to bowl. It was a family sport that their children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren continue to enjoy.Dad enjoyed body building. He was very muscular and well defined to the point he had been mistaken as Jack La Lane quite frequently. He loved swimming and diving off cliffs as well. Dad wrote love poems to Mom, short stories and poems for children and grandchildren, and yes, even some Sci-fi stories for any grandchild who would ask. Dad and Mom loved to play cards with their children and grand children. Not just card games, they learned to play Poker at a very young age. Dad and Mom went to volleyball games, tap dance recitals, baseball games, softball games, performances of all kinds and graduations for all the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dad loved challenging his mind with daily crossword puzzles. He would always invite his children and grandchildren to ""help"" with the answers. Soon they would be calling him offering possible answers and solutions. He completed at three crossword puzzles a day. Dad enjoyed outings with his son, watching sports and just hanging out with him. Dad would sacrifice everything for his family, but he wasn't one to be ""fussed"" over (as he would always say) by his daughters, nieces and grandchildren. The most amazing thing about Dad was that he loved everyone more than himself, and put everyone above him. Bill is survived by 3 children, Debi (Russ), Sharon (Steve), and Bill; 5 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by wife Shirley, mother Mildred, brother Jack (Ve), brother Fred (Grace), granddaughter Jenni, and great-great-grandson Tanner. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 5 pm at the Horan & McConaty Parker Chapel at 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave. Aurora, Colorado 80014. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 10:30 am St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
