William Quentin Springer was born on February 16, 1921 to William and Alma Springer in the city of Bayfield, Colorado. Mr. Springer moved to Durango, Colorado at the age of 5 and was educated through the Durango Public School system. He joined the United States Army on September 15, 1942 during World War II and was a Combat Veteran in the European Theatre. He participated in 5 major campaigns from Normandy to the Elba River in Germany, including the Battle of the Bulge, as a member of the 35th Infantry Division and General Patton's 3rd Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and was discharged in September, 1945. He married Margaret H. Dowds of Durango, Colorado on January 14, 1946. William graduated from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1949 and would pursue a career in Consumer Finance in the Denver area for the next 37 years. He retired in 1987. William was preceded in death by his daughters Lauri and Kelli and survived by his wife Margaret and 8 of their children.
