William Arthur Stubbs passed away September 20, 2005. Born on the Stubbs Ranch near Olney Springs, Colorado, July 18, 1916, son of Arthur and Maybelle Hinckle Stubbs, he moved to the Lazy E ranch outside of Collinsville, Oklahoma in 1920. He attended the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, received a varsity letter for polo and graduated with AB and LLB degrees. Admitted to the Oklahoma Bar July 1941. Married Betty Lou Roberts, daughter of Clarence and Beulah Mondy Roberts, February 20, 1943. A veteran of World War II, 1941-45, he served in Europe with the 83rd Armored Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd, 3rd, 6th Armored Division in Normandy, Brittany, Battle of the Bulge and the Rhineland earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Before returning to the United States, he attended City University of Paris in 1945 and was subsequently discharged as a Major. He was a District Landman with Stanolind Oil & Gas, 1946-58, in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Jackson, Mississippi; Casper, Wyoming; Abilene, Texas; Billings, Montana and Denver, Colorado; Vice President Billings Landmen's Association, Director American Association of Petroleum Landmen; and an Independent Petroleum Landman 1959-86, Denver, Colorado. He was an Elder of Wellshire Presbyterian Church, Denver, Colorado and past President Wellshire Presbyterian Church Corporation. He was a member of the Denver Petroleum Club, Denver Executives Club, Oklahoma Bar Association, Denver Association of Petroleum Landmen and American Association of Petroleum Landmen. He was ardent outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He was a devoted family man. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Stubbs, sisters Barbara Stubbs Beardmore, Mary Stubbs Shipman Kenney and by his daughter Sara Stubbs Ryan, and survived by his wife, Betty Roberts Stubbs, son-in-law John Ryan and grandsons Jeff Ryan, William Ryan and Benjamin Ryan; daughter Jane Stubbs Scofield and son-in-law Robert Scofield; son Fell Stubbs and daughter-in-law Barbara Stubbs and grandsons Graham Stubbs and Stewart Stubbs; son Randall Stubbs and daughter-in-law Loraine Stubbs and granddaughter Amanda Stubbs and grandson Mitchell Stubbs; son Robert Stubbs and daughter-in-law Mariah Stubbs and granddaughter Meghan Stubbs and grandson Travis Stubbs. Funeral services will be held at Wellshire Presbyterian Church in Denver on September 27, 2005 at 2:00pm. For those desiring, contributions may be made to Wellshire Presbyterian Church.
