William A. ""Bill"" Switzer January 3, 1928-February 7, 2017 Survived by wife Margarita ""Marge""; children Dino R. Switzer, Sheila M. (Eckhart) Gohlke, brother Harold A. Switzer; several nephews and nieces. William A. Switzer was very proud to have served his country. He first enlisted in January of 1946 and was introduced to Army life at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. From there he was deployed to Japan where he served during the Allied Occupation. In July 1947 he returned to the United States whereupon he was honorably discharged. Finding civilian life unsatisfactory, he re-enlisted a year later in October of 1948. This time he was deployed to Germany serving with the occupation forces of the 1st Bn, 14th Armed Calvary, Company A under the rank of Corporal . While still serving in Germany he re-enlisted in June of 1951, now with the military rank of Sargent. He was then deployed to Korea, where he saw action and served with honors under Major General Charles D. W. Canham of the 3rd Division. He returned to Fort Leonard in Wood, Missouri where with the rank of Staff Sargent, he was honorably discharged in December of 1954. He was awarded: World War II Victory Medal Occupation Medal (Germany) Good Conduct Medal Korean Service Medal W/2 Camp Stars Commendation Ribbon W/MP UN Service Medal Nat'l Defense Service Medal Visitation Monday, 02/20/17, 3-6 PM, Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Funeral Mass Tuesday, 02/21/17, 11:00 AM, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 S. Quebec St. Interment Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
