William "Alex" Agner

William Alexander Agner passed away at UC Health Anschutz in Aurora, Colorado on January 22, 2022, at the age of 69.  Alex was preceded in death by His mother Phyllis Elaine Porter and his father David Darr Agner. He is survived by wife Brenda Lea Agner, his son Joseph Alexander Agner and his grandsons Paul Michael Agner and Brian Alexander Agner.  In addition, he is survived by his brother David Darr Agner II, his niece Jessica Erin Agner and his nephew Mark Austin Haynes.

Alex was born in McCook, Nebraska.  However, his father was in the Air Force and as a result, moved to different locations including New Jersey, Colorado and Mississippi.  When Alex was in middle school his father retired and the family moved to Montana, finally settling in Columbia Falls where Alex finished middle school and high school.  After high school Alex moved to Denver, Colorado to further his education.  This is where he met his future wife Brenda Lea Sedlor.  After finishing school, and with the Vietnam war ongoing Alex enlisted into the Air Force.

After basic training he was stationed at Cannon A.F.B in Clovis, New Mexico.  So, on long weekends he would drive to Denver to visit Brenda.  They both treasured their time together and it was difficult when Alex had to leave at the end of the weekend.  While stationed at Cannon A.F.B. Alex and Brenda were married.  Their wedding took place at the SAC Memorial Chapel at Offutt A.F.B in Nebraska as Brenda had moved back in with her parents in order to plan the wedding and save for their future together.

After New Mexico, Alex was stationed at Elmendorf A.F.B in Anchorage, Alaska.  Brenda joined Alex a couple of months later, as she too, had enlisted in the Air Force and had completed training.  The oil pipeline was going into Prudehoe Bay and Anchorage was a hotbed of activity.  This was an exciting time for them, with ski trips, crabbing and shrimping at the Homer spit and disco dancing at the Fancy Moose and the Green Dragon during their free time. Both Alex and Brenda celebrated their twenty-first birthdays in Alaska.

The next assignment was at Little Rock A.F.B. in Jacksonville Arkansas. While stationed there Alex worked as an electrician on Titan missiles and C-130 Aircraft. Alex was very gregarious and had many friends however, it was at this time and after eight years of service, he chose to not reenlist and pursued a career in private industry.

He returned to the Front Range and was joined by Brenda who was carrying their son Joseph.  Alex became a dad while he and Brenda lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming.  However, opportunities became available in Colorado, so Alex and family moved back to Denver.

Some highlights of his career were when Alex earned his Associates degree in electronics and became a telecommunications engineer for Lucent/Avaya.  He was responsible for maintaining the international server which had clients worldwide.  No matter the time of day, Alex had clients who were open for business and depended upon the switch he maintained.  It was a challenge and he loved it.

Alex was a talented pianist, and while finishing high school played with front bands for several big-name bands of the late 1960s.  In addition, he played in different bands after returning to Colorado.  Alex truly loved to travel with Brenda on long road trips, and family vacations with his son Joe and his Grandsons Paul and Brian. Favorite places included Florida, Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde and the Great Sand Dunes.

Alex was a truly kind and caring man who is truly loved and is truly missed, he will always be in the hearts of his family and friends.
