William A. (Bill) Miller, 91, passed away on November 29, 2020 after a brief illness. Bill was born in Denver, Colorado and attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic Schools, where as a senior he was Captain of the State Championship basketball team. Foregoing a four year basketball scholarship to Colorado A&M (CSU), Bill attended Regis University where he played intramural basketball and was on the ski team. Bill graduated from Regis Suma Cum Laude in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. After college Bill served 2 years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Marge (Heritier) in 1955 and raised 5 children.
Bill’s career as a certified public accountant included various management positions at Neusteters from 1959-1970, as a partner at Pedicord and Associates from 1970-1978, and then at the Wright & McGill Company for over 30 years, rising to the position of President and then Chairman of the Board. He was featured in “Who’s Who in the West” in 1982/1983. He was a founding board member of the Eagle Claw Fishing Education Center. Bill was an active member and volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and School. He served on many boards and committees, including at St. Vincent’s Church, with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and the Serra Club (President 1977/1978).
Bill loved all things sports, from being a long-time Denver Nuggets season ticket holder, to attending Colorado Rockies games, and supporting the Broncos and Avalanche. He enjoyed skiing, playing golf, racket ball and squash, camping, playing bridge, traveling and of course, fishing. He was a volunteer member of the National Ski Patrol patrolling at the Berthoud, Arapahoe Basin, Loveland and Winter Park Ski Areas after college. He coached youth baseball and softball for many years. Bill was a 70-year member of the Denver Athletic Club. Bill especially loved spending time with his family.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marge, his children Paul (Cheryl), Sue (Tom Healy), John (Kathie Kinsella), Chris (Lisa) and Joan Gardiner (Tom), 11 grandchildren Cara, Julia, Elizabeth, Mayan, Keri, Elisa (preceded Bill in death), Elise, Matthew, Erin, Leah and Will, and 8 great grandchildren. Bill will be greatly missed by his family.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 7, 2020 from 5-7 pm. at Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80246. Due to COVID-19 concerns, a private mass for family only will be held. The mass will be live-streamed at saintvincents.org on Tuesday, December 8th at 11 am. The family is hoping to hold a celebration of life at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bill’s memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St Vincent de Paul Church, 2375 E. Arizona Ave. Denver, CO 80210, to help the poor.
