Willy Sommer, age 76 died peacefully in the presence of his loved ones on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Denver Hospice due to complications of a Cancer trial drug.
Willy was born December 17, 1945 in Basel, Switzerland to Esther and Wilhelm Sommer. Willy graduated from Skyline High School in 1964 in Salt Lake City, Utah. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army National Guard. Willy worked at various jobs before enjoying a career at Zellerbach Paper Company and received a transfer in 1981 to their Denver facility, he was promoted to Warehouse Operations Manager where he excelled and earned several awards for his dedication. After his retirement in 2004, he became self-employed as a handy man, contracted by Apartment and Homes, where he worked up until he became ill.
Besides spending time with family and friends, he enjoyed gardening and his yard was immaculate. Willy had always been a hard worker and rarely sat still. When he did relax, he enjoyed playing computer scrabble and watching TV with his best friends, wife Denise and his pug Jazmine.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Esther and Wilhelm Sommer, his mother in-law Norine Mortensen Johnson and father in-law Orlyn Johnson.
Survived by his loving wife Denise Sommer, his two children Richard (Bobbi) Sommer, Sherri (Leonard) Apodaca, 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Sisters Sandy (Tom) Hefferon, Kristine (David) Risden and Brother Michael (Judi) Sommer.
He always had a smile, a glowing personality and a quirky yet funny sense of humor that will be missed by all who knew him.
Memorial will be at Horan & McConaty 11150 E. Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80014 on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 2pm. Celebration to follow at his home.
