Wilma Fiori

Willie was born in Youngstown, Ohio, in a part of town called Brownlee Woods. She loved walking through the woods as a child. She moved to Great Bend, Kansas, when she was 17 and finished high school there.

Wilma came to Colorado to attend Loretto Heights College and while there met Bob Fiori. They were married in 1954. An only child, she loved being a part of Bob's large Italian family. They had four children, Lucy, Suzanne, Philip, and Tino. Grandson Rob Herman was born to Suzanne in 1987. Throughout their life together they traveled extensively around the world.

She had a love of art from the time she was a child. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Loretto Heights College in 1952, remained active as an alumna for a number of years, and stayed close with many of the sisters.

She earned her Masters of Arts in Anthropology at the University of Denver in 1979. Her fascination with the geometric designs found in Native American pottery and textiles and in Pre-Columbian art led her to take up abstract oil painting. She studied with artist Dale Chisman at the Art Students League from 1987 to 2007. She also worked in monotype creating artwork on paper.

Her work appeared in 33 shows from 1988 to 2018 and in particular as part of the 2003 Colorado Biennial at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. She was represented by Rule Gallery in Denver as well as galleries in Los Angeles and New York. Bob and Willie would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this July. He and her children will
miss her very much.
