Wilma Griffith

Wilma Eileen Griffith (maiden name Clarke), 86, Aurora, CO, peacefully passed away January 22, 2016. She was born July 13th 1929 in Saint Joseph Hospital, the second child, to Leroy G. and Mary A. Clarke, at the start of the Great Depression. She grew up in Parker, CO. She lived in CA with two of her Aunts, before she started school, due to poverty. She helped her mom in the house and became a second mom to her younger brother George. Growing up she loved to ride horses, help with the animals, and do 4 H projects. She spent a year in the hospital recovering from Rheumatic Fever, missing school. She then went back to school and graduated from Parker High School. Wilma married Richard M. Griffith, ""Dick"" January 23, 1953. They met on a blind date to a Halloween party. They lived in Fort Collins, CO, Durango, CO, Renton and Seattle, WA and then moved to Denver, where she lived most of her life. After Richards's death she moved to a nursing home in Aurora, CO. She loved to ride horses in Gymkhana's, going on trail rides, camping, fishing and arrowhead hunting trips, ski vacations and raising three children. Wilma worked as a teachers aid and then for Mountain Bell/US West/Quest as a copy editor for the yellow pages. She was also a proud member of the Parker Area Historical Society. Wilma is survived by her Children: Janis Reyher & Robert Don Williamson and Muriel & Ron Hensley. Grandchildren: Rex & Kristin, Justin & Jenn and Rebecca Reyher, Laura & Rodney Even and Jillian & Ryan Doherty. She is also survived by nine Great Grandchildren and one baby girl due in May. She is survived by Sisters Ruth Pogorelz, Charlotte Corah, Brother George and Yvonne Clarke. Wilma Griffith was preceded in death by: an unborn baby, her parents, son Greg A. Griffith, granddaughter Sabrina Hensley, husband Richard, younger sister Gertrude Kordziel, brother in laws John Pogorelz, Andrew Kordziel, and Harold Corah. Pallbearers: Robert Don Williamson, Ron Hensley, Rodney Even, Ryan Doherty, Rex Reyher, and Justin Reyher Services: Friday January 29th, 2016 at 10:00 AM, Horan & McConaty, 11150 E Dartmouth Ave. Lunch 11:00 – 12:30 with Graveside services at 1:00 PM Thursday January 28th 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM visitation Thank you to Cherry Creek Retirement Village and Saint Andrews Nursing Home for the great care Wilma received in the past several years.
