Winifred Frances Kline

May 6, 1923 — June 3, 2020

Winifred Frances (Winnie) Kline

Winnie Kline died peacefully June 3, 2020. She was 97 years old and a long- time resident of Holly Creek Retirement Village in Centennial, Colorado.
Winnie was born on May 6, 1923 in Champaign, Illinois, the last of seven children. Her early years were spent in southern Illinois. The family moved to Chicago during the depression and Winnie grew to adulthood on the north side of the city. She met her future husband, Allen, while attending Senn High School in Chicago. High school sweethearts, they were married on April 1, 1944 at the height of World War 2. They had little time together before Allen was shipped overseas with the Marines to the Pacific theater. After the war, the couple settled in Chicago and started a family. They eventually moved to the northwest suburbs of Chicago where they raised 4 children, 2 girls and 2 boys. Winnie and Allen were happily married for over 66 years.
In 1983, career opportunities led the couple to Centennial, Colorado. Winnie adapted quickly to her newly adopted home and its view of the mountains. Winnie's outgoing personality and high energy made making new friends easy, and she developed many lasting friendships through golf, bowling, gardening, card games and especially volunteering. She volunteered for many years at the Children's hospital in Chicago and did the same again in Denver. Winnie loved kids! She also loved dogs (the bigger the better) and, of course, her beloved Broncos but her greatest love was for her family.
She was a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother. She was beloved by her family and all who knew her. Her memory will live on in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her husband H. Allen Kline in 2010.
She is survived by her children: Barbara Verdone (Vincent); Robert Kline (Carol); Nancy Sted (Richard); Roy Kline (Janet).
Her grandchildren: Jeffrey Verdone (Adrienne); Timothy Verdone (Gabrielle); Alexander Kline (Saura).
Her great- grandchildren: Derek Verdone; Jack Verdone; Drew Verdone.
Winnie will be interred beside her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
A private family memorial will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children's Hospital of Colorado in Denver, Colorado
