They cannot equal the life that Zanelle Vancil led, But if they can make you think about how she lived, And not how she died, Then they have done their part. She loved birds. She had a bird bath and even in her last years always made sure That Carole's bird feeder was full of seeds. She said that she only watched the news to make sure that the world Hadn't blown up. She was a true Texan: honest, brave, and sweet. She loved being sweet and eating sweet, and made Dr. Pepper a Sunday night tradition. She said, ""Food is delicious, nutritious, and Makes you feel ambitious. She pronounced, ""pie"" as ""pah"". She loved cats, and would always point out Cali, her neighbors Calico, As she lurked in Grandma's garden. After the stroke, she called her immobilized Right hand ""The Cat"", and worked hard to move it. She had a cookie jar shaped liked a tomato, and when we went to her House in Pueblo it was always full with decadent treats. And every time we would visit her we would always wake up to the smell of one of Her perfect breakfasts. And every time we visited room 232 in the nursing home, She tried to read our shirts, and offered us mints and ginger snaps. She told us to call her ""Ma'am"" as she was raised to do. She saw family as the most important thing in the world, And couldn't have asked for a better one than the people in front Of us today. We'll miss you, Grandma Zanelle. Thank you for everything.
