Zeta (Hammond) McMichael, 90, a life-long Denver resident and Colorado native, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2022. Zeta was born in Denver on December 16, 1931 to Lynn and Julia Hammond. She attended Cherry Hills Grade School, then South High, and graduated college from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Zeta married Donald McMichael in 1955, with the devoted couple having just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on July 6th of this year.
Zeta was kind and beautiful, and a loving wife, mother, grand-mother, great-grandmother, sister, and person who touched the lives of all she met. She was a teacher at heart with a keen and clever wit who brought a smile to those who knew her. In addition to cherishing and tirelessly caring for her family, Zeta worked as an elementary school teacher, and later as a long-time volunteer at Children’s Hospital. Zeta loved music, dancing, reading, and for over thirty years rarely missed the wintertime weekly fun-filled family ski trips to Winter Park.
Zeta is predeceased by her parents, and her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bruce Nowell. She is survived by her husband Donald; children, Lauren (Greg) Burnett, Thomas (Susan) McMichael, and Susan Markle; six grandchildren, Julia, Kalen, and Ansley Burnett, Kyle McMichael, Matthew (Brittanny), and Tom Markle; and two great grandchildren, Mason and Charlie Markle. She is also survived by siblings Lynn Hammond, Julie Blackmun, Jill Brown, and many nieces and nephews.
Zeta was known for her gracious, thoughtful, and always prompt thank-you notes. On behalf of Zeta, and from our family, we extend heartfelt and profound gratitude to the loving hospice staff at Optimal Hospice Care, and to the care-givers at Denver Homecare Solutions.
If in your heart to do so, a thank-you note expressing gratitude and love for Zeta would be meaningful to the family. Notes may be sent to: Lauren Burnett, P.O. Box 7000, Avon, Colorado 81620.
The family invites all to gather for a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 commencing at 1:00 p.m. at Pinehurst Country Club located at 6255 W. Quincy Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80235.
Zeta was our sunshine. She made us happy always, even when skies were gray. Zeta will be so missed, but in our hearts, we shall forever feel her rays.
