Betty Goewey

November 12, 1925 — July 16, 2017

Betty Goewey (née Betty Hollis) died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in Littleton, Colorado on July 16, 2017 at the age of 91.

Betty is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, William ""Gray"" Goewey. She met Gray when he was on leave from the Navy during WWII, and she often said how immediately smitten she was with the handsome sailor in his uniform.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her children Ellen Orrill, David Goewey, Stephen Goewey, Barbara McGuire, and their partners; her brother Robert Hollis; her sisters Joan Reynolds and Barbara Garcia; and her many wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Born in 1925 in Wayzata, Minnesota, she grew up fishing for bass in a leaky rowboat with her dad on Lake Minnetonka, singing songs with her mom and siblings around an old piano in the evenings, and listening to Chicago Cubs games on the radio. Her love of baseball was a lifelong passion, and every year she eagerly awaited the start of baseball season. The Cubbies finally made her dreams come true last year when they won the World Series.

An avid reader, Betty made regular trips to the library, racing through two or three books a week. In her 70s, she taught herself to use a computer so she could research the family genealogy. She was an accomplished gardener, and roses and dahlias bloomed profusely in her garden. Her only vice was chocolate.

Above all, she was devoted to her family. Her kindness, gentleness, and generosity of spirit will always be remembered by those who knew her.

In keeping with Betty's wishes, there will be no funeral service. The family will hold a memorial service later in the year.
