Charles “Chuck” Russell Johnson, 97, passed away September 2, 2020, in Castle Rock, Colorado. He was born on August 10, 1923 in Fort Lupton, to Walter and Lela (Cain) Johnson. Chuck is survived by his wife Aileen (Lamping), daughters Renae Massey, Colleen (Eric) Larsen and Casi (Jim) Doherty. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Chuck was preceded in death by son Carl R. Johnson, brother Raymond Johnson and sister Pearl Pilot.
Chuck served in the United States Navy as an aviation machinist from 1943 until 1946. After his discharge he lived with his father on Long Meadow Ranch in Shawnee. Aileen lived on the Ben Tyler homestead across the road and they were married December 15, 1947. They continued to live on the ranch and raise cattle for 19 years. While living on the ranch, Chuck also worked on the Harold E. Roberts Tunnel and was one of the last two surviving workers. In 1964 the family moved to Lakewood and to Sedalia in 1974. After a serious car accident in 2016 they moved to Castle Rock to live with Renae so she could care for them. Chuck made good use of his Naval training and worked as a machinist for Keebler for 21 years, retiring in 1989. After their retirement, Chuck and Aileen travelled extensively with family.
Chuck would always tell stories of his days in the Navy, attending Church and how calling upon the Lord in times of crisis saved not only his life but the lives of others. He could quote scripture as well as any clergy, offering the words of the Lord in comfort. The spirit of the Lord was always with him. He will be deeply missed by his loving family.
