Delores “Betty” Brown passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 25th near Golden, CO where she had lived for the last 47 years. She enjoyed many aspects of life including reading, saving reading material, gardening, playing bridge, traveling, working a Sudoku puzzle, having political discussions, researching genealogy, and knitting.
Betty was born in Milwaukee, WI to parents Arthur and Edith (Gaulke) Keup a few weeks before the stock market crash in 1929. She joined her older siblings Ruth, June, and Arthur with younger sister Carol joining the family a few years later. Betty graduated from Milwaukee State Teachers College (now University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee) with a major in math and secondary education. In the late 1960s, she earned a master’s degree from Purdue University in Russian history with a minor in multi-media sciences so she could become a school librarian.
She married her husband Lynn Brown in August 1952 after she spotted him at church during their high school days. They lived in many parts of the United States including Fairbanks, AK; Reading, PA; St Louis, MO; Los Angeles; the Bay Area; West Lafayette, IN; and Golden. They were married for 68 years until Lynn’s passing last year. She worked for McDonnell Aircraft and Douglas Aircraft as a mathematician before children arrived. She was a school librarian in Lafayette and at several Jefferson County schools.
Betty leaves behind her beloved children Becky, Joel (Diana), and Laura (Elliot Litz); cherished granddaughters Rachel and Sarah Litz; dear sister Carol Theisen; favorite sister-in-law Lu Keup; many delightful nieces and nephews; and friends that were family.
A service will be held at Glory of God Lutheran Church at 12200 West 38th Avenue, Wheat Ridge 80033 at 10:30am Thursday, August 19th with a lunch reception following.
